Answer:

The test tube containing only the snail will have the most dissolved carbon dioxide i.e. Test tube A

A snail present in water will respire and release carbon dioxide.

The test tube having plants will use up all the carbon dioxide for photosynthesis and release oxygen.

The test tube having only water has no significant change in the amount of carbon dioxide over time.

So the correct answer is 'A'.

In test tube C, there would be a decrease in carbon dioxide content. This is because-

  • Photosynthesis will occur in the plant which is kept in test tube C. During photosynthesis, carbon dioxide and water is used to form sugars in the presence of sunlight. Oxygen is released in this process.
  • In test tubes A and B, there will be no photosynthesis due to the absence of light. Hence, carbon dioxide will not be used.
  • In test tubes A and D, the amount of carbon dioxide will be increased due to respiration by the snail.
