Assuming that each bacteria multiplied by binary fission:
  first gen (single parent)=1
2nd- 2
3rd- 4
4th- 8
5th- 16
6th- 32
7th- 64
8th- 128
Hence, the cell went through 8gen.

The number of generations the cells go through is 8.

  • In bacteria, mitosis occurs and its division results in double the initial number of bacterial cells.
  • 1 cell divides to form 2 cells because of mitosis.
  • So, 4 cells divide to form 8, then 8 form 16 and 16 forms 32, 32 divide to form 64 and 64 divide to form 128 cells.
  • Total 5 generations resulted in the production of 128 cells.
  • Hence, a total of 128 cells is produced after 5 generations.
