an express train of length 90 m passes a passenger train of length 130m in 22 seconds while travelling in the same direction and in 4 seconds while travelling in opposite directions find speed of each train

v1 = 65/2 m/s

v2 = 45/2 m/s

● Explanation -

When trains are moving in same direction,

l1 + l2 = (v1 - v2) t1

90 + 130 = (v1 - v2) 22

220 / 22 = (v1 - v2)

v1 - v2 = 10 m/s ...(1)

When trains are moving in opposite direction,

l1 + l2 = (v1 + v2) t2

90 + 130 = (v1 + v2) 4

220 = (v1 + v2) 4

v1 + v2 = 55 m/s ...(2)

Solving (1) & (2),

v1 = 65/2 m/s

v2 = 45/2 m/s
