An hour after Aishwarya started from her
college towards Ananya's home, a
distance of 53 km, Ananya started from
her home on the same road towards
Aishwarya's college. If Aishwarya's speed
was 4 km per hour and Ananya's was
3 km per hour, how many km from
Ananya's home did the two meet?

They meet 21 km from the ananya home.

Step-by-step explanation:

Distance between home & college = 53 km

Aishwarya speed S_{1} = 4 \frac{km}{h}

Ananya's Speed S_{2} = 3 \frac{km}{h}

After one hour aishwarya started from her  college towards ananya's home.

The distance traveled by aishwarya in one hour = 4 × 1 = 4 km

Thus the remaining distance = 53 - 4 = 49 km

Now this distance of 49 km is traveled by both girls with the relative speed.

Thus the time taken to cover the distance by both girls by traveling towards each other is

\frac{49}{3 +4}

\frac{49}{7}

⇒ 7 hours

Now the distance traveled by aishwarya in these 7 hours = S_{1} × 7

D_{1} = 4 × 7 = 28 km

& distance traveled by Ananya = 49 - 28 = 21 km

Thus they meet 21 km from the ananya home.
