The little arrow in the bottom left corner of an icon indicates that the icon is a shortcut icon.
Shortcut icons are for starting the program it represents.
When you double click on this icon it opens up the program for you to use.
The shortcut icon is not the actual program so it is safe to delete it without loosing the program
Every program has an exe file(executable file) inside the programs folder This exe file runs the actual program. By right clicking on this file you get a drop down list with some options. Of one of these options you are offered to create a shortcut icon for your desktop.
