An incentive of a 4% discount is given on the sale of a thermos flask. If the sale should result in an 8% profit, how much percentage above the cost price should the flask be marked.

The sale should result in 8 %

Lets assume that the actual price of the thermos flask is x [ SP ]

Let SP be x , MP = 100/(100-4) × x = Rs. 25x/24 , CP = 100/(100+8) × x = Rs.25x/27 Difference = MP - CP = Rs. 25x/216 Per cent = 25x/216 ÷25x/27 × 100 = 12.5%(ans)
