Given that,

Time constant of an inductance coil is 4 seconds

To find,

New time constant of the circuit.

SOlution,

An inductance coil is cut into two equal parts. It is a case similar to that of resistance. When inductance coil is cut and are connected in parallel, then the equivalent inductance is given by the sum of reciprocal of inductances.

It doesn't mean that the time period will change. It implies that the new time constant of the circuit is same as before i.e. 4 seconds.
