An inflated balloon bursts if you push its surface with a pointed tip of pencil. However nothing happens to inflated balloon when you push it hard with a finger Why?

Since we know that pressure is equal to force upon area this means as the area increases pressure decreases because pressure is inversely proportional to area.

pressure \: =  \:  \frac{force}{area}

pressure \: is \:  \\ directly \: proportional \: to \:   \frac{1}{area}

i.e. \: pressure \: is \:  \\ inversely \: proportional \: to \: area

Therefore,

Our finger have much larger area than the tip of a pencil. This, larger area causes decrease in pressure and so our finger does not burst the balloon but the tip of a pencil does.
