Answer:

Step-by-step explanation:

See the venn diagram attached.

Total number of families = u = 40

Number of families reading English paper = n(E) = 9

Number of families reading Marathi paper = n(M) = 20

Number of families reading both papers = n(E ∩ M) = 7

Total number of families reading news paper = n(E U M)

= n(E) + n(M) – n(E ∩ M)

n(E U M) = 9 + 20 – 7 = 22.

Total number of families = number of families reading at least one paper + number of families not reading any paper.

Hence we get number of families not reading any news paper = U – n(E U M) = 40 – 22 = 18.

Hence 18 families do not read any news paper.

Answer: Families who did not subscribe any newspaper = 18

Step-by-step explanation:

Total number of families = 40

Families who subscribe English newspaper = 9

Families who subscribe Marathi newspaper = 20

Families who subscribe both = 7

Solution- Families who subscribe both = 7

Then Families who subscribe English newspaper = 9-7 = 2

Families who subscribe Marathi newspaper= 20-7 = 13

So, Families who did not subscribe any newspaper = 40-(2+7+13)

= 40-22 = 18 (Answer)
