Given : An investor had ₹ 7100. Of these,
he invested partly in 6% at 96 and
the remaining in 8% at 104.
Income from both the stocks, taken together is ₹ 500,
To Find : Amount he invested in each of the stocks.
Solution:
Amount Invested in 6% at 96 = x Rs
and Amount Invested 8% at 104 = 7100 - x Rs
Stocks bought of 6% at 96 = x/96
Income = (x/96) * 6 = x/16 Rs
Stocks bought of 8% at 104 = (7100-x)/104
Income =((7100-x)/104) * 8 =(7100- x)/13 Rs
x/16 + (7100- x)/13 = 500
=> 13x + 16(7100 - x) = 104000
=> -3x + 1,13,600 = 104000
=> 3x = 9600
=> x = 3200
7100 - x = 3900
Hence Invested in each stock = 3200 and 3900 Rs

Step-by-step explanation:
Amount Invested in 6% at 96 = x
Rs and Amount Invested 8% at 104 = 7100 - x
Rs
Stocks bought of 6% at Income = (x/96) * 6 = 96 = x / 96 x/16 Rs
Stocks bought of 8% at 104 = (7100-x)/104 Income =((7100-x)/104) * 8 (7100- x)/13 Rs
x / 16 + (7100 - x) / 13 = 500
=> 13x + 16(7100-x) = 104000
=> -3x + 1,13,600 = 104000
=> 3x = 9600
=> x= 3200
7100 - x = 3900
Hence Invested in each stock = 3200 and 3900 Rs.
