Answer:
An iron article should be given a coat of paint due to the following reason:
When an iron article comes in contact with the atmospheric air or moisture then it starts oxidation reaction with the atmospheric air or the moisture due to which it gets corrode or rusted.
This process is called rusting or corrosion of iron.
Rust is a reddish-brown dust type layer that deposited on the surface of the iron which makes it easy to damage.
On applying the coat of paint on the iron article it does not come directly in the contact with the atmospheric air or the moisture and thus does not get rusted.

Iron article should be coated with paint.
Reason :
- Iron articles in presence of moisture reacts with air and forms iron oxide coating on it. This new product forced is called as rust and the process is called as rusting
- Rusting process makes the metal weaker
- degrading its strength,
- Rusted iron does not hold the desirable properties of iron
- rusting of iron may lead to damage in automobiles, railings, other important structures
hence to prevent iron from rusting we paint the iron article
