The wooden block will float on water and the iron block will sink because iron is heavier than wood and water.

The wooden block will float on water and the iron block will sink  as iron is heavier than wood and water.

Explanation:

1.Because the density of wooden block is less than the dennsity of water while the density of iron block is more than the density of water.

2.If we tied the a piece of iron on wood , but the wood shape is such that the weight of combined system (iron +wood) is less than the water displaced by wood , then only the combined system will float on water

3.Density of iron is more than wood. What is this mean is iron the space between iron molecules in iron much less than as that of wood.

4.So in iron there is more molecules than wood in same volume. More molecules means more mass, that's why iron is much heavier than wood for same volume
