let total length of pipe be x metres

length of the remaining pipe = (x-20)m

A/Q

=> 20 : (x-20) :: 5 : 2

  =  > \frac{20}{x - 20}  =  \frac{5}{2}  \\ \\   =  >40 = 5x - 100 \\  \\  =  > x =  \frac{140}{5}   \\  \\  =  > x = 28 \: m \\  \\  \\ ratio =  \frac{original \: length}{remaining \: part}  \\  \\ ratio \:  =  \frac{28}{8}  =  \frac{7}{2}

original length of the pipe os 28 m and ratio of original length to the remaining length of the pipe is

7 : 2
