Iron is readily oxidized by water and air if kept in open.
Iron reacts with the moisture present in the atmosphere to form a layer of iron oxide on the surface.
This process is called rusting.
Therefore, to prevent the contact of iron and moisture, the iron gate is painted regularly.

Iron gate should'nt be exposed to moisture or air. This will lead to the rusting of iron. Paint does'nt allow the iron to come in contact with them. Thus, painting iron is an important factor.
