Iron lies above copper in the reactivity series. This means that iron knife will displace copper from copper sulphate solution. As a result of the reaction, ferrous sulphate will be formed and the solution will be light green in colour.

Fe(s) + CuSO_4(aq) ----> FeSO_4(aq) + Cu(s)

This is a single displacement reaction.

The reason behind the colour change is displacement reaction of iron and Copper .

Iron is more reactive than copper so it displace copper from copper sulphate solution and make it iron sulphate

Fe+CuSO⁴----->FeSO⁴+Cu
