Iron nails sink because its volume is small and it does not terminate sufficient water to balance its weight.Whereas, a ship can terminate much more water than its own weight.

An iron nail sinks in water because it's density is 7.8 g cm^-3 which is more than water so it will sink an iron ship floats becase it is hollow mass in which there is air only so it will float
