An iron rod gets coated with a film of Brown coat when kept in open for a few days because it is attacked by air and moisture present in the atmosphere and thus it undergoes corrosion. This phenomenon is called RUSTING. The brown substance coated on the rod is RUST and its formula is Fe2O3.xH2O.
