An iron rod of 13m long is placed against a wall. The distance of the foot of the iron rod from the wall is 5m. How high is up the wall does it reach?

Length of rod = 13m 

Distance from wall to foot  of ladder is 5m.

Let the height of wall be x.

∠ABC = 90°

Applying pythagoras theorem, 

We get, 

⇒x^2+5^2 = 132

⇒x^2 = 13^2−5^2 =169−25=  144

⇒x = 12m
