An isosceles triangle ABC has AB = AC = 20 cm. If the side BC is 16 cm and D is the midpoint of BC, calculate the length of AD. ​

Answer:

D is the midpoint of BC. So BD=BC = 8cm

According to Pythagoras theorem,

AB^2 = AD^2 + BD^2

400cm^2 = AD^2 + 64cm^2

AD^2 = (400-64) cm^2

= 336cm^2

AD=18.3 cm.
