Both perpendicular and base are equal in length.

Area of triangle= 1/2 b×h

Let b=h=y
1/2×y×y=8
y^2=16
y=4

Perpendicular=base=4

Now by Pythagoras theorem
4^2+4^2= √16+16=√32=4√2

So length of the altitude is 4√2.

Hope it helps......

sby: but why base and
sby: perpendicular are equal
