let triangle ABC be the required isosceles triangle with median AD

given ;  perimeter is 36 cm

            AB = AC = 13 cm

            let BC be x cm

therefore 36 = 13+13+x

                 x = 10 cm

By Pythagorus theorem

    AB²= AD²+ BD²

    13²= AD²+5²

    169-25=AD²

     AD²= 144

     AD=12

Area of triangle ABC = 1/2 x BC x AD

                                   =1/2 x 10 x 12

                                   = 120/2

                                   = 60 cm²
