Answer:

U=-20.

V=15

m=-v/u. M=-15÷-20=3/4=+0.75

M is positive so virtual erect and m is less than 1 so diminished

1/f=1/-20+1/15=+1/60

f=1/60

f value is positive then it is aconvex mirror

An object 20 cm from a spherical mirror gives rise to a virtual image 15cm behind the mirror.

Determine the magnification of the image and the type of mirror used.

A/C to question,

A virtual image is form behind the mirror is formed behind the mirror, so the mirror is convex mirror.

image distance, v = +15 cm (behind the mirror)

object distance, u = - 20cm

now magnification = -v/u

= -(15)/(-20)

= 0.75

you see, image is virtual diminished and behind the mirror, hence we are sure that the mirror is convex mirror.

Therefore the magnification of mirror is 0.75 and type of mirror is convex mirror.
