Answer:

A train covers the first 5 km of it's journey at a speed of 30 km/hr and the next 15 km at a speed of 45 km/hr.

We know Average speed = total distance / total time

Time = total distance / speed

Time taken by train in first 5 km journey

Distance = 5 km

Speed = 30 km /hour

Time = 5 km/30km per hour

Time = 0.1667 hour

Time taken by train in next 15 km journey

Distance = 15 km.

Speed = 45 km/hr

Time = 15 km/45 km/hr

Time = 1/3 hour = 0.3333 hour

Average speed = total distance / time

Total distance = 5 km + 15 km.= 20 km.

Total time = 0.1667 hour + 0.3333 hour = 0.5 hour

Average speed= 20 km/0.5 hour

Average speed = 40 km/hour

The average speed of the train is 40 km/hr.

Answer :The average speed of the train is 40 km/hr.
