An object has an acceleration of 12.0 m/s/s. If the net force acting upon this object
were halved (i.e., one-half of the original net force), then its new acceleration would
be m/s/s.

Given

An object has acceleration of 12 m/s²

Imagining that if the net force acting on object were halved meaning one half of original force.

To Find

New acceleration of object

Solution

Here, mass of object will be constant so it will remain same in both cases.

Let the original force acting on object be F & new force be F/2 (as it will be halved)

Case l :

Formula we know :

⇒ Force = Mass × Acceleration (F = ma)

⇒ F = m × 12

F = 12m -( l )

Case ll :

F = ma

⇒ F/2 = ma

Putting value from ( l ):

⇒ 12m/2 = ma

⇒ 6m = ma

⇒ a = 6m/m

a = 6 m/s²

Therefore,

New acceleration of object will be 6 m/s²
