An object has an acceleration of 16.0 m/s/s. If the net force acting upon this object were halved, then it’s new acceleration would be ________________ m/s/s. If the net force acting upon this object were a third of the original value, then it’s new acceleration would be ________________ m/s/s

Answer:

8 , 16/3 or 5 1/3 or 5.3333.....

Explanation:

Since F=ma ; a=F/m

a=16m/s/s (GIVEN) .........(1)

m of the object doesn't change

So, If F is halved

new a=1/2F/m

Substituting (1) in this equation, new a=1/2× 16m/s/s

=8m/s/s

Similarly, If F is one-third

new a=1/3F/m

Substituting (1) in this equation, new a=1/3× 16m/s/s

=5.3333........
