consider a man walking 2 meters forward and then 2 meters backwards .so he comes to the point form where he has started therefore distance traversed is 4 meter but displacement is zero as the initial and final positions are the same ... also consider a athlete running on a circular track he comes to same point where he started hence displacement is zero but distance he traveled is  2 π r..where r is the radius of the track
