yes it can.

If an object has started from point A and travelled to point B and returned to point A again, then displacement is zero.

When an object returns to its original position, its distance doubles or varies dependingly but its displacement is always zero.

Because displacement is vector quantity i.e, it has both magnitude and direction.

So when an object returns to its initial position, then the magnitude varies but direction is opoosite and hence cancels and displacement is zero.
