Even if an object moves through a considerable distance, if it eventually comes back to its initial position, then the corresponding displacement of the object would be zero.

If the object goes to another position like a car from Mumbai going to Delhi then no, if the car goes to Delhi and returns back to the same place then yes . Also if the distance between delhi and Mumbai 2km and if the car covered same distance while traveling to Delhi and returning to same position then the displacement is 0.
