An object is at a distance 25 cm in front of a plane mirror. The mirror is shifted 5m
towards the object Find:
i) the initial distance between object and image
ii) Final distance between object and image
iii) the distance between two positions of the image.

Answer:

Explanation:

as 25cm=0.25m

(a).For reflection from a plane mirror, distance between object and mirror = distance between mirror and the image=0.25m

So, distance between object and image= (distance between object and mirror) + (distance between mirror and image) =(0.25+0.25)m=0.5m is initial distance

(b).final distance between object and mirror=0.25-5=-4.75 as the mirror is shifted towards the object

So, distance between object and image= (distance between object and mirror) + (distance between mirror and image) =-4.75+(-4.75)

=-9.5

(c).first distance =distance between object and image

0.25+0.25=0.5m

new distance=distance between object and image

-9.5

So, distance between two positions=new distance-first distance=

-9.5-(0.5)=

-10m

hope it helps
