Question :

An object is at a distance 25 cm in front of a plane mirror. The mirror is shifted 5 cm away from the object. Find : (i) the new distance between the object and its image, and

(ii) the distance between the two positions of the image.

Solution :

Step by step explaination:

In the given figure the both images B and B' the object A, by the mirror in its initial and new positions.

Now, Initially the distance of the object A in front of plane mirror M is AM = 25 cm, therefore the image B is at a distance MB = 25 cm from the mirror M behind it.

So, now distance between object A and its

image B = 25 cm + 25 cm = 50 cm.

On shifting the mirror by 5 cm away from the object, the new distance of object A from the mirror M'B' = 30 cm behind the mirror M' .

Hence,

Answer:

_______________________________

(i) The new distance between the object A and image B' = 30 cm + 30 cm

= 60 cm

(ii) After taking the position of the object A as reference point, the distance between the two positions of the image, BB' = new distance of image from the object, AB' - initial distance of image from the object,

AB = 60 - 50 = 10 cm
