Answer:

-2.5 m/s²

Explanation:

Given :

  • Initial velocity = u = 15 m/s

  • Final velocity = v = 10 m/s

  • Time taken = t = 2 seconds

To find :

  • Acceleration of the object

Acceleration = (v-u) / t

Acceleration = (10-15)/2

Acceleration = - 5/2

Acceleration = - 2.5 m/s²

The acceleration of the object is equal to - 2.5 m/s²

Extra:

  • Acceleration can also be found with formula : v=u+at which is also known as the first equation of motion

AnswEr :

Given that velocity of an object changes from 15 m/s to 10 m/s in 2 seconds.

We have to find acceleration of object.

Now what is called acceleration?

Acceleration is rate of change in velocity/speed of an object. It's given by,

Acceleration,a = (v - u)/t

[Note : Acceleration = - Retardation]

Where,

  • v : Final velocity
  • u : Initial velocity
  • t : Time taken.

From given data we have :

Initial velocity (u) = 15 m/s

Final velocity (v) = 10 m/s

Time (t) = 2 seconds.

We will use 1st equation of motion i.e. v = u + at

Substituting values,

→ 10 = 15 + a × 2

→ 10 - 15 = 2a

→ -5 = 2a

→ a = -5/2

a = -2.5 m/s²

Acceleration of object = -2.5 m/s² [Ans.]
