Given : An object is moving in a straight line with constant acceleration. Initially it is traveling at 16 m/s.

Three seconds later it is traveling at 10 m/s.

To Find : How far does it move during this time?

A) 30 m B) 39 m C) 48 m D) 57 m

Solution:

As object  is moving at constant acceleration hence

S = (1/2)(u + v) t

u = 16 m/s

v = 10 m/2

t = 3 secs

S = (1/2) (16 + 10) * 3

=> S  = 13 * 3

=> S = 39  m

Another method :

v = u + at

=> 10 = 16 + a(3)

=> a = - 2

v² - u² = 2aS

=> 10² - 16² = 2(-2)S

=>- 156 =-4S

=> S =  39  m

Moves 39 m during this time
