☀️ Given that :

          Initial velocity of object is 5m/s

          It is brought to rest

          In time of 10s

Need to find : Retarding acceleration

⠀━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

❍ To calculate the retarding acceleration we have to substitute the values in the first equation of motion ::

⚝ v = u + at

Where,

  • v denotes final velocity
  • u denotes initial velocity
  • a denotes acceleration
  • t denotes time taken

T H E R E F O R E,

=> 0 = 5 + [ a × 10 ]

=> 0 = 5 + 10a

=> 10a = 0 - 5

=> 10a = -5

=> a = -5/10

=> a = -0.5 m/s²

[ Note : Final velocity is taken zero because the body was brought to rest ]

⠀━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

  • Henceforth, value of retarding acceleration is -0.5 m/s²
