An object is placed 20cm form (a) a converging lens, and (b) a diverging lens, of focal length 15cm. Calculate the image position and magnification in each case.

for converging lens
given ...u=-20cm (from sign convention rule)
f=-15cm (from sign convention)
from lens formula
1/f=1/v-1/u
1/-15=1/v-(1/-20)
1/15-1/20=1/v
4-3/60=1/v
1/60=1/v
v=-60

now since we know that
m=v/u
m=-60/20
m=-3 Ans

similarly we can find for diverging lens
