Answer:

As 1v+1u=1f=2R∴1-2u+1u=2-40,12u=-120,u=-10cm.The object must be placed at 10 cm in front of the mirror.

Concept:

When a hollow spherical is divided into parts and the exterior surface of each cut portion is painted, it forms a mirror, with the inner surface reflecting the light. This type of mirror is known as a concave one.

A magnified, erect, and virtual picture is obtained when the concave mirror is put very close to the item.

Find:

The position of the image.

Solution:

Focal length

f=\frac{R}{2}\\\\f=\frac{40}{2}\\ \\f=-20cm

Using sign convection.

Object distance u=-200cm

\frac{1}{f} =\frac{1}{u} +\frac{1}{v} \\\\-\frac{1}{20} =-\frac{1}{200} +\frac{1}{v} \\\\\frac{1}{v} =\frac{1}{200}-\frac{1}{20}\\\\\frac{1}{v} =\frac{-9}{200} \\\\v=-\frac{200}{9}\\\\v=-22.22cm

Hence, the image is formed at -22.22cm.
