The distance between the object and image formed is 40 cm.

  • Considering the mirror to be plane mirror.
  • As object and mirror both has moved by 10 cm towards each other so the relative distance between the mirror and the object will be reduced to 20 cm
  • As in case of plane mirror the image is formed at the same distance , so the distance of the image will be 20 cm from the mirror

Given as :

The distance of object from front of mirror = d = 40 cm

The object and the mirror are moved 10 cm towards each other

To Find :

The distance between the object and image formed

Solution :

The plane mirror being moved 10 cm nearer the object

So, It predicts the image to move distance = 2 × 10

= 20 cm ahead of the original image

Now,

The initial position of image was  from the object =  2 × 40 cm

                                                                                      = 80 cm

Again

As the mirror moved 10 cm towards the object

So, object new distance from mirror = ( 40 - 10 ) cm.

                                                     = 30 cm

And

The new distance of image from object = 10 × 30

                                                                  = 300 cm

So, The new distance between object and image formed = 300 cm

Hence , The new distance between object and image formed is 300 cm  Answer
