Given:

An object is placed at 8cm distance from the pole on a principal axis of a convex mirror of focal length 5cm.

To find:

The image position using RAY DIAGRAM?

Solution:

First of all , focal length is 5 cm , hence radius of curvature is (5 × 2) = 10 cm.

  • So, when object is placed at 8 cm, the object is between the focus and the centre of curvature of the mirror.

Now, irrespective of the position of the object in front of the convex mirror the virtual image is always produced in front of the focal length.

  • The image will be virtual, erect and diminished.

  • One ray can be imagined to go || to the principal axis and then meet at the focus.

  • Another ray can be imagined to get reflected from the pole of the mirror.

Mathematical calculations can be done using MIRROR FORMULA to get accurate value of image distance.

\star Refer to the diagram.
