Answer:as it is a convex lens though the focal length will be positive=8 cm

u=-12 cm

using the lens formula,1/v=1/f+1/u

by putting all values 1/v=4/96

v=96/4=24 cm

nature of img will be

it will be at the right side of lens

height of img and the obj is considered as in the opposite direction as the magnification of lens is negative and real inverted

and the object dist is 1/2 of the img distance

Given :-

A convex lens in which,

  • object distance (u) = 12cm
  • focal length (f) = 8cm

To find :-

  • Nature of image
  • Position of image

Solution :-

we know that,

1/v - 1/u = 1/f

So,

1/v = 1/u + 1/f

substituting the values in the formula :-

1/v = 1/(-12) + 1/8

1/v = -1/12 + 1/8

taking LCM,

1/v = 8 + (-12)/(-12)(8)

1/v = 8-12/-96

1/v = -4/-96

cancel -ve signs,

1/v = 4/96

divide numerator and denominator by 4.

1/v = 1/24

v = 24cm

---> v is positive so, the image is formed at the distance of 24cm on the other side of the lens.

Now,

m = v/u

m = 24/12

m = +2

--> magnification is positive, so the image is virtual and erect. And the image is 2 times smaller than the object.
