ANSWER:-

As we are already given with the speed values ,we need not use the distance time and speed relationship.

We need to know that:-

\bf{Speed = \dfrac{Distance}{Time}}Speed= </p><p>Time</p><p>Distance

And also,

\bf{Average \ Speed = \dfrac{Total \ Distance}{Total \ Time}}Average Speed= </p><p> Time</p><p>Total Distance</p><p>

We need not use any of them.

We will attempt is as:-

\bf{Average \ Speed = \dfrac{40 + 60}{2}}Average Speed= </p><p>2</p><p>40+60

For given 2 speeds.

And given 2 paths.

\bf{Average \ Speed = \dfrac{100}{2}}Average Speed= </p><p>2</p><p>100</p><p>

\sf{Average \ Speed = 50 km/h }Average Speed=50km/h is the answer.
