An object is placed at a distance of 10cm from a concave mirror of focal length 5cm. find the nature and position of image?
Answers
Step-by-step explanation:
- Object Distance ,u = -10 cm
- Focal length ,f = -5 cm
To Find:-
- Nature & Position of Image
Solution:-
As we have to calculate the nature and position of Image. Using mirror formula
- • 1/v + 1/u = 1/f
where ,
- v is the Image Position
- u is the object distance
- f is the focal length
Substitute the value we get
→ 1/v = 1/f - 1/u
→ 1/v = 1/-5 - 1/-10
→ 1/v = -1/5 + 1/10
→ 1/v = -2+1/10
→ 1/v = -1/10
→ v = -10 cm
- Hence, the image position is on the Center of Curvature and the image distance is 10 cm left from the pole.
Now, calculating the magnification
• m = -v/u
substitute the value we get
→ m = -(-10)/-10
→ m = 10/-10
→ m = -10/10
→ m = -1
- Here , negative sign show that the image formed is real & inverted and as the same size as the object .
Step-by-step explanation:
Given,
IN CASE OF THE CONCAVE MIRROR
object distance (u) = -10cm (behind the mirror).
focal length (f) = -5cm (behind the mirror).
BY THR THE MIRROR FORMULA,,
1/u + 1/v = 1/f.
; (-1/10) + 1/v = (-1/5).
; 1/v = 1/10 - 1/5.
; 1/v = 1-2/10. ( by doing LCM the fraction).
; 1/v = (-1/10).
RECIPROCAL THE FRACTION,,
; v = -10cm.
; image distance (v) = -10cm.
As we know that,
m = -v/u.
= -(-10)/(-10).
= -1.
So, the magnification is negative then, the size of the image is same as the object & nature of the image is real and inverted.
Position of the image is real, inverted.
