IMAGE DISTANCE IS -48 cm.

Given:

  • Object distance = 12 cm
  • Real image is 4 times object

To find:

  • Image distance ?

Calculation:

We know that :

  • When the image is real, it is inverted. Hence the magnification sign will be negative.

Now, we can say:

magnification =  -  \dfrac{v}{u}

  • "v" is image distance and "u" is object distance.

 \implies  - 4 =  -  \dfrac{v}{( - 12)}

 \implies  - 4 =    \dfrac{v}{12}

 \implies v =  - 4 \times 12

 \implies v =  - 48 \: cm

So, image distance is -48 cm.
