GIVEN:

  • Object distance = - 12 cm

(object distance is always negative as distance is measured form the pole of the

mirror)

  • image distance = + 48 cm

SOLUTION :

As per the mirror formula

1 / f = 1 / v + 1 / u

1 / f = 1 / 48 - 1 / 12

1 / f = 1 - 4 / 48

f = - 48 / 3

f = - 16 cm

focal length = -16 cm

Magnification = - v / u = - 48 / - 12 = +4

ANSWER :

The image formed is enlarged , real and inverted

( formed behind the mirror )

focal length = - 16 cm
