An object is placed at a distance of 4m from the mirror. It is shifted 2m away from it and
then 3m towards it? Calculate the distance between the object and the image. Which rule for the image formation by a plane mirror is applicable in this situation?

Answer:

Given that object is placed 4m away from mirror which means the distance between object and image will be = (4+4) m = 8m.

Now, if the object has been shifted 2m away from the mirror, the image will also do the same and so, the distance between them will be = (8+2+2) m = 12m.

Now, if the object moves 3m towards the mirror, the image will do the same as before and distance will be = (12-3-3) m = 6m.

So, the object and image are 6 m apart from each other.

The rule is that the distance moved by the object is always as same as the distance moved by the image.

I hope this helps.
