An object is placed at a distance of 60 cm from a concave lens of focal length 30 cm. (i) use lens formula to find the distance of the image from the lens (ii) List 4 characteristics of the image (nature, position, size) formed by the lens in this case. (3+2)

Given that,
- Distance from the concave lens (u) = -60 cm [ Negative due to concave lens ]
- Focal length of the concave lens (f) = -30 cm [ Negative due to concave lens ]
- Image distance (v) = ?
According to the lens formula,
⇒ 1/v-1/u = 1/f
⇒ 1/v = 1/f + 1/u
⇒ 1/v = 1/-30 cm+ 1/-60 cm [taking LCM and solving we get the following]
⇒ 1/v = 2-1/60 cm
⇒ 1/v = -1/60 cm
⇒ 1×60 cm = v×-1
⇒ 60 cm = -v
⇒ v = -60 cm
Therefore, the distance of the image is (-60 cm).
Here, negative distance shows that the image is real & inverted image.
Hope this helps you.
