Question:

An object is placed at a distance of 8cm from a convex mirror of focal length 12 cm.Find the position of the image formed.

Formula used:

Mirror formula

\boxed{\sf{\frac{1}{u}  +  \frac{1}{v}  = \frac{1}{f}}}

Solution:

According to the question,

u = -8cm

f = -12cm

We need to find, the value of v.

  \implies \frac{ - 1}{ 8}  +  \frac{1}{v}  =  \frac{1}{12}  \\ \implies \frac{1}{v}  =  \frac{1}{12}   +  \frac{1}{8}  \\ \implies \frac{1}{v}  =  \frac{2 + 3}{24}  \\ \implies \frac{1}{v}  =  \frac{5}{24}  \\ \implies v =  \frac{24}{5}  = 4.8cm

Hence,the image will be formed at a distance of 4.8cm of the mirror.
