given u=-6 and f=+12

to find out v=-?

using mirror formula

1/v=1/f-1/u

1/v=1/12-1/-6

1/v=1/4

v=4cm behind the mirror

so nature of image is virtual

Answer:

Given:-

Distance of the object, (u) = -6 cm

Focal length, (f) = +12 cm

To Calculate:-

(a) Position of the image (v) = ???

(b) Nature of the image = ???

Solution:-

Formula to be used:-

\frac{1}{f}=\frac{1}{v}+\frac{1}{u}

or

\frac{1}{u}=\frac{1}{f}+\frac{1}{u}

Substituting the given values,

\frac{1}{u}=\frac{1}{f}+\frac{1}{u}

\frac{1}{v}=\frac{1}{12}-(-\frac{1}{6})

\frac{1}{v}= \frac{1}{12}+\frac{1}{6}

\frac{1}{v}= \frac{1+2}{12}

\frac{1}{v}= \frac{3}{12}

v=4 \: cm

(a) Position of the image (v) = 4 cm

(b) Nature of the image = virtual, erect and small in size.
