An object is placed between two plane mirrors which are 20cm apart, mirror M1 is 12cm from the object, what is the distance between the first image formed in the two mirrors, and also the distance between the second and third images

Explanation:

distance between the first two images

= 2× distance between the two mirrors

= 2×20

= 40 cm

distance between the second two images

= 4× distance between the mirrors

= 4×20

= 80 cm

distance between the third two images

= 6×distance between the two mirrors

= 6×20

= 120 cm

NOTE:- distance between the images doesn't

depend on position of the object.

Formula:-

distance between the nth two images

= 2×n×d

where, d = distance between the two mirrors.

Hope this helps you.
