here we have,

focal length, f= -4cm
image distance, v= 5cm
object distance, u=?

we have, mirror formula: 1/f = 1/v - 1/u

=>1/-4 = 1/5 -1/u

=>-1/u = -9/20

=> u = 20/9

now,-v/u= image height/object height
=>,-5/(9)20 = -4/ object height

=>object height= -25/9

Given:

The focal length of the mirror is f= 4 cm

The distance at which the image is made u=5 cm

Now height of image is hu= 4 cm

To find:

The height of the object.

Solution:

Using the mirror formula

1/f=1/v + 1/u

1/4=1/v + 1/5

1/4-1/5 = 1/v

v=20 cm

That is the object is placed .

Now hu/hv= u/v

4/ho=5/20

4×20/5=ho

ho=16 cm

The height of the object is 16 cm
