An object is placed in front of a spherical mirror at a
distance of 20 cm from it. A virtual image is formed at a
distance of 30 cm from it. Arrange the following steps
in the proper sequence to determine the nature and
focal length of the mirror.​

(a) Assign proper signs to the object distance and image distance by using the sign convention.

(b) Substitute the values of v and u in the mirror formula

 \frac{f}{1}  =  \frac{1}{u}  +  \frac{1}{v}

(c) Obtain the value of focal length.

(d) Check whether the focal length obtained is negative or a positive integer.

(e) Decide whether the mirror is a convex or a concave mirror based on the sign of the focal length obtained.

Initially proper sign is assigned to object distance and the image distance according to the sign convention.The values of u and v are substituted in the mirror formula

The sign of f indicates whetherthe mirror used is convex or concave.
