An object moves along a circular path of diameter 14 cm with constant speed. If it takes 2
min to move from a point on the path to the diametrically opposite point. Find
(a) the distance covered by the object
(b) the speed
(c) the displacement
(d) average velocity.

Explanation:

  • the distance covered by the object = 2π r ( for full circle )

where r is the radius

given diameter is 14cm

therefore the radius is 7cm

distance = 43.98 cm

  • the speed of the object = distance/ time

given time = 2 min = 120 sec

speed = 43.98 /120

= 0.366

  • the displacement of the object will be zero if it completed one circle and reach the same point

otherwise

if it completed half of the circle , it's displacement will be 14 cm

  • average velocity of the object = distance / time = 0.366 m/s

here I have to clarify that speed and velocity are same but speed is scalar quantity and velocity is vector quantity
